It was a relief when we finally converted against Sydney on Sunday.
We were clearly dominating possession and I think if we came away with a loss, we all would have felt we deserved better. It didn’t feel like a win, but personally I believe we should have won. We struggled to put away chances in the final third and we didn’t, myself included. But that’s behind us now, and we look forward to Adelaide this weekend.
I might not have found my scoring touch in Sydney, but it’s a great feeling to be scoring goals of late. Getting recognised throughout the league gives me a great deal of confidence, but also means opposition defences will start looking out for me. I’m still looking forward to lots more goals to come though!
I’ve had a strong preseason, my body is feeling 100% and that makes a big difference. Dave (Edmondson) has also put the belief in me and when a coach does that, of course you’re going to gain confidence. In terms of my goal scoring spurt, I’ve got to thank the likes of Enza Barilla, (Lisa) De Vanna and Fishy (Jess Fishlock)… I’m just the final touch to some amazing assists. I like scoring and if the midfielders keep doing what they’re doing, I think it’s going to be harder for me not to score!
The new additions this season have been amazing so far. Hoylie (Katie Hoyle) and Jess Samuelsson are extremely strong and consistent players. They lift the standard of the team and are key links in our successes. Fishlock is also a striker’s best friend, she makes my life easy and the more we play together, the better our link up play will become.
De Vanna on the other hand, is one of a kind. I have never witnessed such speed in a female footballer. You can play a through ball and rely on her to get there before anyone else. She can almost make anyone’s pass look good! (Emma) Checker is pretty special too, she keeps wasting my petrol and my money because I keep shouting her coffee and driving her everywhere! But she is good company and a great gym buddy.
The best thing about Melbourne Victory is how we are all like one big family and also the fact that we all appreciate a good coffee. I live close to training and have the best cafes around so everyone comes to me! Anybody in the team is welcome for pre-training coffee but there are always those familiar faces like (Steph) Catley, (Rachel) Alonso and Checker.
Speaking of Checker, she has developed a troubling habit of buying all the same T-shirts as me now. We’ve got to continually double check what we are both wearing to social events because we definitely don’t want to rock up wearing the same clothes! What can I say… She just wants to be like me 😉
