Melbourne City have once again relied on David Villa to salvage them a point, coming from a goal down to clinch a second 1-1 draw in as many weeks, this time coming against the Newcastle Jets.
Despite a dominant first half, the hosts failed to make early chances pay, and found themselves behind in the second via an Edson Montano header.
With time running out, the Spanish World Cup winner once again stepped up to score a late equaliser.
A shaky start by Birighitti left his side exposed on a number of occasions, and the returning David Williams had the first chance to make Newcastle pay, volleying high after a poorly cleared corner.
Melbourne City looked to impose themselves on the game, with Damian Duff causing headaches on the right wing, and Aaron Mooy delivering dangerous set pieces.

With time running out and the hosts pushing for an equaliser, Zenon Caravella had a simple chance to put the game to bed, but blazed a point blank shot over the bar.
The Jets were made to pay as Villa pounced on the ball outside the box and struck it past a desperate Birighitti.
Jeronimo had a final chance to win the game for Newcastle, but the striker sprayed his shot horribly wide.
