Altona City’s WPL side are currently looking for a new no. 1, after losing goalkeeper Rachael Morrison five rounds into the season.
“Rachael joined us from Montrose, which is way out in the eastern suburbs,” head coach Nathan Rogers said.
“Due to work commitments and medical reasons, she has had to [leave the club].”
Rogers was keen to emphasise that the vacancy was an exciting opportunity for any goalkeeper keen to play at the top level of the Victorian state leagues.
“We’re looking to provide the opportunity for a young or experienced ‘keeper to join us in the WPL senior team, this will be our No. 1 goalkeeper position,” he said.
“The club will offer a strong and professional environment, training club jumper and zero fees.
“On top of that, we will get some sessions from a current VPL or A-League goalkeeping coach to assist in their development.”
Altona have been struggling since achieving promotion to the top tier competition recently, going 0 for 5 and plummeting to the bottom of the standings, but Rogers seemed confident that things would turn around soon.
“In the coming weeks, Altona City will announce the signing of experienced ex-W-League players in leadership roles, both on and off the park,” he said.
“They will assist us in the further development of this young squad.”
