Bulleen Lions winger Olivia Edwards has declared that both the cup and the league title is in her – and her teammates – sights following their Women’s State Knockout Cup quarter-final win against Heidelberg on Monday.
Despite only earning promotion to the WPL for the 2013 season, Bulleen are sitting pretty at the top this season, as well as having their name in the hat for the semi-finals draw.
“We’re really keen to have both,” said Edwards in regards to the double.
“The girls have only just stepped up, its their second year [in the WPL] for them, and the first year for me here and just really excited to go at anything we get a chance for.”
Edwards put in a class display in the cup, assisting Coppock for the opening goal of the match, before delivering for Tessa Sernio, who scored the sides second.
However, she remained cautious of slipping into a comfort zone, especially after seeing such an early goal fly in.
“Yeah honestly we went into the rooms [at half-time] and we felt as if we dropped off after we scored that first goal,” Edwards said.
“We didn’t keep passing, those nice combinations and that sort of thing but an early goal always does help you keep composure.
“I wouldn’t say it was as comfortable as it looked but we are confident in what we’re doing. But it’s a cup game, anything could’ve happened, really you could switch off at any moment.
“Towards the end it was just about [us trying to] keep passing it. When we passed it, we felt good.”
With a repeat clash against Heidelberg on the cards this weekend, Edwards has divulged into what she thinks will be the key to her side getting their second win in as many weeks.
“Keeping our heads really, moving the ball quickly, switching, nice combination plays really gets through them quite well,” she said before delving deeper.
“We did dive in a lot, and they have a few quick players with their feet. Other than that, it’s just keep doing what we did tonight and we’ll get the result again.”
