Melbourne Heart have denied reports that they are interested in signing Chelsea’s all time leading goal scorer Frank Lampard.
According to the Daily Star, Manchester City and Melbourne Heart owner Sheihk Mansour offered the veteran midfielder a two year deal, with option of a third which could see the England international grace Australian shores for over $120,000 a week.
Heart released a media statement earlier today, acknowledging the speculation has no foundation.
“Melbourne Heart FC notes the speculation in one UK-based newspaper linking Frank Lampard with a move to the club.”
“However this is no foundation to this story, nor was the Club given an opportunity to comment on it prior to publication.”
Although appearing 36 times throughout the season in both the Premier League and Champions League, the 35-year-old has fallen well behind in Jose Mourinho’s pecking order.
Despite additional interest from U.S side LA Galaxy, the Express reports that Lampard and Stamford Bridge are set to engage in contract talks, with the vice-captain ready to sign a one-year-extension.
