Number Five: Jimmy Robinson
Appearances: 2006-07 (7 games, 1 goal)
An instant cult hero if there ever was one. The Englishman sent 47,000 fans at Etihad Stadium into raptures when the striker netted a looping 92nd minute header in the second leg of the 2007 A-League Major Semi-Final, sending Melbourne through to its first Grand Final. Despite failing to settle down during his short stint at the club – and occupying a visa spot – Robinson and Melbourne parted ways at season’s end. His goal though remains one of the most iconic and important moments in Melbourne Victory’s history.
Number Four: Leigh Broxham
Appearances: 2006-present (159 games, 6 goals)
They say, “feed the Brox and he will score,” and at number four comes Melbourne Victory’s house DJ. Despite his fan-favourite status, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing for the 27-year-old. Broxham was awarded the title of the Melbourne’s whipping boy during the club’s early years as inconsistency plagued the utility. His resilience though paid off, becoming one the club’s favourite sons, renown for his hard work rate and versatility. Broxham now deputizes Mark Milligan as the club’s vice captain, fulfilling a starring role wherever required.

Number Three: Gui Finkler
Appearances: 2012-present (53 games, 12 goals)
Finkler became popular amongst the ranks at Melbourne Victory almost immediately. A smart footballer with the capacity to entertain and conjure something out of nothing, his ability over the dead ball has either rescued or won the game for Melbourne on a number of occasions. Injury saw the Brazilian spend almost a year on the sidelines and while a contract extension proved to be elusive, Melbourne Victory supporters rallied behind their number seven, taking to social media with the #inkthefink campaign. Anthony Di Pietro and co. obliged and Finkler has repaid the faith on countless outings.
Number Two: Fred
Appearances: 2006-07 (20 games, 4 goals)
One season was all it took for the Brazilian to cement his name into Melbourne Victory folklore. Despite later crossing over to Melbourne Heart and captaining the club, Fred’s impact for Victory during the 2006-2007 season still sees him regarded as one of the finest and most influential players to grace the club, epitomized by the four assists he provided in the 2006-2007 grand final triumph. The now 35-year-old entertained supporters and neutrals alike before departing to the MLS the following year.
