It was goalkeepers galore on the weekend as five shot stoppers warranted nomination for Round 13’s Team of the Week
Diarna Cartwright (Cainlea), Anna Lanning (Boroondara), Alex Cuss (Sandringham), Marika Kamoda (Monbulk) and Jamie Brown all caught they eye of our respective match reporters but unfortunately only two can make the cut.
Four Sandringham players also featured after their 4-0 rout of Bundoora on Monday night whilst an additional five players from Sunday evening’s game of the season between Boroondara and South Melbourne earned selection.
4-0 score lines were also a popular result this weekend with Box Hill, Sandringham and Bulleen also putting four passed their opponents.

GK: Diarna Cartwright (Cairnlea FC)
Cairnlea’s shot stopper was in fine form on Sunday afternoon, maintaining a clean sheet in rock solid performance. Pulling off several crucial saves and holding her position well, the keeper was instrumental in Cairnlea’s 3-0 defeat of Monbulk.
RB: Ally Gayfer (Boroondara Eagles)
The full back was decisive all evening on the right side of defence for Boroondara, keeping South’s Laura Spiranovic at bay for most of the night. Gayfer additional contributed with some crucial interceptions as hardly any crosses found their way into the box from her side of the park.
CB: Christie Parton (Sandringham)
Parton stood strong in the second half in particular to combat a Bundoora outfit throwing everything at Sandy to nab a goal. The defender was also crucial in nullifying both Alonso and Barilla as they both failed to impact the contest.
CB: Hannah Ryan (Boroondara Eagles)
Another selection from our thriller on Sunday night. The defender started the contest on an impressive note, clearing Spiranovic’s shot off the line and was nominated as standout in the heart of defence.
LB: Kristen Stensholdt (Sandringham)
The Sandringham defender seems to coming into form after an injury inflicted start to the reason, grabbing a spot at left back in Round 13s Team of the Week. Limiting Dade immensely, she closed down the Sportsmart WPL player of month extremely well to taper delivery quality and keep her well out of the contest.
RM: Lia Privitelli (FC Bulleen Lions)
Despite the emphatic scoreline, Privitelli was an impressive standout in an otherwise untidy performance as Bulleen defeated Ashburton 4-0. Providing three assists off the flank, including an audacious cross to set up Edward’s for Bulleen’s first, the pacey forward appeared threatening for most of the contest.
CM: Steph Tanti (Sandringham)
The creative midfielder netted a 30-yard screamer on Monday night, and added an assist to her name after her corner went directly in off Bundy keeper Tori Snellekzs. Tanti furthermore impressed playing in a deeper role than usual as her ability to push back in Hannah Stuart’s absence was fantastic.
CM: Michelle Verzi (Heidelberg United)
The American scored a stunner worthy of winning any game when the Berger’s required a goal with ten minutes to play. Aside from smashing her effort into the back of the net, outside the box, on her non preferred foot, Heidelberg’s skipper was at her usual commanding best.
LM: Nicola Prins (Sandringham SC)
It was a fantastic performance from the attacker on Monday night. Played out wide on the left in an unconventional 4-5-1 for Sandy, Prins starred as she strayed away from her usual role up front, putting in a number of quality deliveries before scoring two spectacular goals herself.
ST: Ruby Foottit (Box Hill United)
The striker bagged her fourth goal of the season on Friday night in yet again another great performance up front. Decisive and proving to be unstoppable in the final third, Foottit was nominated as a stand out as her side defeated Casey Comets 4-0.
ST: Emma Hubbard (Boroondara Eagles)
Hubbard was simply stunning as her side defeated South 2-1 on Sunday night. Essentially winning the game with her goal and pin point assist, her finish was additionally clinical as she harried South’s defence all night.
Substitutes:
Alex Cuss (Sandringham)
Sandy’s shot stopper was positively safe in goals on Monday night. Didn’t have a fair amount of ‘saves’ to make but was called into action to come and collect and went to ground bravely on a number of occasions.
Ellie Brush (Box Hill United)
Controlling the base of midfield on Friday night, Brush earns a spot on the pine this week after a brave performance against Casey, including her side’s first within ten minutes.
Beatie Goad (FFV U7 Girls)
The 17-year-old Victory midfielder looked to be a lively asset for the NTC side against Heidelberg, providing some dangerous balls in the first half, including a well taken one on one finish.
Leah Barrett (Boroondara Eagles)
The defender cleared just about everything that came her way on Sunday night as she closely contested teammate Hannah Ryan for a spot in this weeks starting line up. Her experience counted for everything as Barrett thwarted most of South’s advances, holding on for a fantastic victory.
Tiffany Eliadis (South Melbourne)
The 18-year-old scored a quality goal to equalise for South on Sunday night as she was nominated as one of the visitors best.
Tessa Sernio (FC Bulleen Lions)
Bulleen’s skipper was another shining light as her side claimed top spot on the Sportsmart Women’s Premier League table on Monday night. The midfielder did her best to organise the troops in an otherwise untidy performance, displaying her leadership and quality as a footballer.
